"The Fernand-Landry Scholarship is one of the two most important scholarships created by Assumption Life and represents a great honor, equal to the great Acadian who lends his name to it. Fernand Landry was an exceptional builder who left his mark on Acadian society on many levels, notably as Chairman of our Board of Directors. We hope that this financial support will make a significant contribution to the training of our students who will become our leaders of tomorrow," said Assumption Life president and CEO Sébastien Dupuis.

Mathieu Martin completed his first year of a master's degree in history at the Université de Moncton, Moncton campus, with a GPA of 4.22 out of 4.3 after earning a bachelor's degree in history at the Edmundston campus of the same institution. He was president of the student association at the Edmundston campus, as well as president of the history and geography department at the Moncton campus, in addition to contributing as a mentor for other students. The impressive career of this eloquent young man is a testament to his remarkable commitment to his studies and to the community.

"Assumption Life has been supporting Acadian youth through its bursary program since our very beginnings in 1903, and we see it as a way for us to participate in the development of our communities. Last year, we awarded 21 scholarships to outstanding individuals as part of our important social commitment program," added Réjean Boudreau, Vice-President and Chief of Organizational Development and Client Experience at Assumption Life.

The non-renewable scholarship in memory of Fernand Landry (1947-2000) was created in 2003, on the occasion of Assumption Life's 100th anniversary, to recognize his significant contribution to the development of the Canadian Francophonie and Acadia. It is awarded to a person from Atlantic Canada who distinguishes himself or herself through social or community involvement as well as leadership abilities and academic excellence.
